Carrie Blankenship
Carrie Blankenship was named Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Operations at Maryland in February of 2016.
In her role, Blankenship collaborates to lead the revenue enhancement efforts of the department, focused on further developing the University's athletics brand. She is a member of the Athletic Director's Executive Leadership Team and specifically oversees sponsorship and multimedia rights, broadcasting and production, ticket sales and operations, digital media and marketing. Additionally, she serves as the cheerleading and band liaison to athletics.
Blankenship joined the Terrapins in 2006 and previously was the Associate Athletic Director for Marketing. Under her leadership, the marketing department was named the 2015 National Marketing Team of the Year Award by the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators. Grossing nearly 15 million dollars in ticket revenue in its 10 ticketed sports, Maryland saw an increase in average attendance in all 13 sports with spectator admittance as fans streamed into College Park to witness some of the best athletic events in the nation. Included among the highlights of the 2015 attendance numbers were a 25 percent increase in football season ticket numbers and three sellouts for men’s basketball, in addition to single-event attendance records for volleyball, wresting and gymnastics.
Blankenship served as the Assistant Athletic Director/Championships and Community Engagement in 2013. In that role, she directed all NCAA championship events hosted by Maryland and served as the lead liaison for all community outreach activities and events for the athletics department. In addition, Blankenship also served as the sports supervisor for women's tennis, men's and women's & field and women's cross country.
Prior to her role with Championships and Community Engagement, Blankenship served as the Assistant Athletic Director/Marketing and Sponsorship Services. From 2008-13, Blankenship was responsible for the marketing/strategy, revenue generation and gameday presentation for Maryland's men's basketball program.
