Amaya was born and raised in Arizona. She attended the University of Nevada, Reno where she received her B.S. in Finance. While attending the university, Amaya played for the women's basketball team where she got the inspiration to coach. Amaya has worked elite basketball camps and tournaments for various organizations including Stanford women's basketball and the Las Vegas Aces. She also played basketball overseas in Ireland (2023-2024). Amaya will be working with the VCU women's basketball team as a graduate assistant this year to get more experience in the collegiate realm of women's basketball.
